10 Things I Hate About You [PG]

On his first day at his new school, Cameron immediately falls in love with Bianca, the girl of his dreams. Unfortunately Bianca is forbidden to date unless her ill-tempered and un-dateable older sister Kat does too. So Cameron sets a plan in motion and singles out the perfect guy to take out Kat: a mysterious bad-boy with a nasty reputation of his own.

A modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You is a wonderfully biting and witty high-school romantic comedy that will have you laughing and swooning every time.

On his first day at his new school, Cameron instantly falls head over heels in love with Bianca, the most beautiful sophomore in the school. Unfortunately Bianca is forbidden to date unless her older, ill-tempered and un-dateable sister Kat does. Another downside for Cameron is that he is not the only one with his eye on Bianca: Joey, a pretty-boy and rich male model also has a thing for the sophomore and unfortunately Cameron just can’t compete. So Cameron puts his mind to the test and sets up a plan to trick Joey into paying someone to take out Kat, thereby allowing him to spend time with Bianca. Singling out the perfect guy to take out Kat: a notorious bad-boy with a nasty reputation of his own, Cameron and his friend Michael join forces with the bad-boy, Patrick, and help him to melt Kat’s icy attitude.

This is really a typical high-school movie, but backed by a very engaging story and filled with a great blend of memorable characters. With a clever script and great performances from all the actors, it’s quite an enjoyable film, though admittedly not one that I could watch over and over in quick succession.
Starring Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, Larry Miller, Andrew Keegan, David Krumholtz, Susan May Pratt, and Allison Janney, 10 Things I Hate about You is a fun and light-hearted high school movie filled with romance, creeps, jocks, bets, feminists, parties, and plenty of drama. A fun movie to watch once in a while as an afternoon flick.
