Basil the Great Mouse Detective [G]

Basil of Baker Street is the greatest detective in all Mousedom, having sold practically every case he’s ever worked on. But every great detective has a rival, an equally ingenious criminal mastermind, and Basil’s is the fearsome and terrible Professor Ratigan; an evil rat who has narrowly evaded Basil’s tricks and traps for years. But when young Olivia Flavisham’s father is kidnapped by Ratigan, Basil is determined more than ever to stop Ratigan from committing another heinous crime. Will he catch the rat this time?

It’s Sherlock Holmes in mouse form! Another Disney classic that not many people have heard about, Basil the Great Mouse Detective is a classic tale of mystery and crime. Based on the book series Basil of Baker Street by Eve Titus, and with a gripping story, wonderful characters, and a few clever jokes thrown in, it’s a ride that I could go on again and again.

When young Olivia Flavisham’s father is kidnapped by a peg-legged bat, she desperately sets out to find Basil of Baker street to help her. After getting lost, Olivia finally finds the detective with the help of Dr Dawson. Although Basil is reluctant to take on a new case, he quickly changes his mind when Olivia mentions the peg-legged bat; a lackey for Basil’s nemeses the dastardly Professor Ratigan. Having narrowly missed out on catching Ratigan for many years, Basil is determined to put him behind bars this time and, with the help of Olivia and Dawson, the case becomes an adventure that none of them will ever forget.

Filled with many twists and turns of the plot, Basil the Great Mouse Detective is a wonderful film about crime and mystery. Featuring the voice talents of Barrie Ingham as Basil, Val Bettin as Dawson, Candy Candido as Fidget, Susanne Pollatschek as Olivia, and Vincent Price as Professor Ratigan, it’s packed with action, suspense, mystery and comedy.
Another classic, Basil the Great Mouse Detective is the adventure of a lifetime.
