Mamma Mia! [PG]

"It's tyical isn't it? You wait 20 yers for a dad then three come along at once." The music, the characters, and the complications. From the stage. onto the screen comes Mamma Mia! One of the most loved and celebrated musicals of all time!

"Ooh. You can dance. You can jive. Having the time of your life. Ooh ooh see that girl. Watch that scene. Digging the dancing queen." You cannot help but sing along! The story, the characters, the complications, and the music. Now Mamma Mia! comes down off the stage to be a timeless screen classic.

Sophie is 20 and about to get married. She wants a big white wedding and most importantly, she wants her father to give her away. The downside is that she doesn't know who her father is. Whilst ransacking some old trunks, Sophie finds her mother's diary of the year she was pregnant and, upon reading it, discovers that she has three possible fathers. She then decides to invite all three to her wedding in the hopes that she'll be able to tell which one is her real father. However when they arrive, Sophie finds that she cannot possible tell. Now her mother's three exes are loose on their tiny island and it's up to Sophie to make sure that her mother doesn't find out.

A musical movie made by women for women, Mamma Mia! has pretty much everything! A star-studded cast, fantastic characters, brilliant shimmering costumes, fantastic Greek scenery, and of course the wonderful 70s pop music from ABBA. I think what girls love about it so much is the fact the film is dominated by females and the camaraderie that the central women have with one another is so believable. We can easily see ourselves as Donna and the Dynamos, laughing and screaming with each other.
Ok, now all the actors were brilliant, but I do have to draw special attention to Meryl Streep who plays Donna, Sophie's mother. All the actors do their own singing and when Meryl sings The Winner Takes It All on the cliff-face before Sophie's wedding, it just brings tears to my eyes. Meryl was really the star of the show and she is completely mesmerising to watch on screen in this flick.
Backing up Meryl is an entire chorus line of famous faces:
Julie Walters
Christine Baranski
Colin Firth
Pierce Brosnan
Stella Skarsgard
Amanda Seyfried
Dominic Cooper
And all these stars do their own singing and it's just absolutely wonderful to watch. Packed to bursting with wonderful music, fantastic characters, a gorgeous little script, amazing costumes (see Donna and the Dynamos do Super Trooper, big shiny flared sleeves are back man) and all these wonderful actors, Mamma Mia! is a timeless classic musical film that will have you laughing, crying, swooning, and of course, singing and dancing around your living like a man person.

"You can dance. You can jive. Having the time of your life ooh ooh. See that girl. Watch that scene. Digging the dancing queen."
